The majority of the company’s employees will continue to work from home permanently. Airbnb told its 6,000 employees on Thursday that they would have the option to permanently work remotely, joining a growing number of companies that have ditched return-to-office plans, including Zillow and PwC. Airbnb also told its U.S. employees that they could move to anywhere in the country without a reduction to their compensation.

All these insights are informing our product roadmap, and our thinking about the workplace. Facebook and Google also told employees yesterday they would be required to be vaccinated when returning to the office. There is no reason you shouldn’t find a company that is a better fit. Armed with your research and prep work, make sure you’re ready to lead the conversation with your boss. Start by discussing at a high level your desire to work remotely, including the benefits for your organization and how typical it is where you work and in your industry. Lay the groundwork for weeks or even months ahead of time by proactively establishing a system of measuring and communicating your progress to your boss on a regular basis. When the time comes to make your request to work remotely, not only will your boss know your value as an employee, but you’ll also have a proven system in place for assessing your performance.
